The price of a used excavator depends on five things: brand, tonnage, year, working hours and overall condition. A well-known brand with good parts support (CAT, Komatsu, SANY) holds value better than an obscure one.
The 20-ton class
For most buyers, the 20-ton excavator is the sweet spot — big enough for serious work, small enough to ship economically. Popular models are the CAT 320, Komatsu PC200 and SANY 215. Prices vary widely, so always get a like-for-like comparison.
FOB vs CIF — understand the difference
FOB means the price at the Chinese port — you arrange and pay the shipping yourself. CIF means the price includes freight and insurance to your destination port. CIF is easier for first-time buyers because the supplier handles the logistics.
Why two identical machines can differ in price
Two CAT 320Ds can be $5,000 apart. The difference is usually in the hours, the undercarriage wear, whether the hydraulics have been rebuilt, and whether the seller offers real inspection evidence. Cheaper is not always better — a verified machine with current videos is worth the premium.
The honest way to compare
Don't compare headline prices. Compare: machine price + shipping + inspection evidence + what happens if something is wrong. Ask each supplier for the same information, then decide.
